Why blowing off a supplier or candidate will damage your business.
My concern is one I believe I share with many others. That is, the lack of professional courtesy shown by business owners and employees.
I know many people currently interviewing who have gone through multiple interviews, done research and offered consulting advice to businesses for free on an interview (at the interviewers request), only to never even receive as much as a call back, rejection letter or anything.
In a post in the blog Meetingjobs, “Candidates deserve to be treated with respect. Hiring officials should appreciate the position the candidates are in as they seek new employment opportunities. Their time, efforts and interest in your organization should be acknowledged. There are no circumstances where a candidate asked to go through the interview process should not receive feedback.”
The second case is the business executive who enjoys wasting your time to fill up his or her day. These people know darn well they are never going to buy a product from you or utilize your services, but they hang around just enough to be considered a warm, but usually useless lead. Typically, the word gets out rather quickly on these information harvesters and yes, competitors do talk!
Remember, people talk. Whether you are late paying bills, blowing off interviewees or wasting the time of business suppliers, your business name is constantly out there and subject to, often times, deserved scorn. This bridge burning is no different than when a disgruntled employee leaves a job and badmouths his or her former employer.
